How did you first find the tree care industry?
It probably started with maintaining my own trees on my property. I was moving back to the Sacramento area in my twenties after college and was looking for something that really interested me. I found a job opening at Capital Arborists, called Mike, and landed the spot as an Arborist Apprentice!
What was it that inspired you to stay?
The variety of each workday was what kept me so interested.
I stayed at Capital Arborists for our approach with people and each client. The longer-term care and relationships we build with our clients and their trees are just so rewarding. Watching the tree you planted years ago grow into a healthy, mature part of the community is unlike anything else.
As a native of ‘the city of trees’, the opportunity to work for a company that cares for Sacramento’s heritage trees is so cool. Getting to care for the trees that make up our city’s vibrant character and feeling like being part of the city and part of the long-term health it is incredible.
What’s your favorite part of an average day ‘in your boots’ as an Arborist?
Getting to walk a client’s property and learn their personal histories with their trees. People have such unique trees with individual needs, and being able to answer their questions and hear their stories with those trees is my favorite part of each day.
What’s something you wish more people knew about arborists, the tree care industry, or just trees in general?
The benefit and value of trees! They’re worth so much to our Sacramento ecosystem, local wildlife, and even property values. Did you the US Forest Service estimates that healthy trees add up to 30% more value to the sale of a home? Trees are valuable!
Proper pruning and having the right people touching your trees will protect them from harm and disease years down the road. A chainsaw in untrained hands is the worst thing that’ll happen to a healthy tree. Keeping the right people on your property caring for your trees is an investment that pays off.
