Red Oak Sacramento Arborist Tree Care

Red Oak

Quick Facts

Part of Sacramento’s famous ‘Shady Eighty” (eighty shade trees well adapted to the Sacramento valley), and a favorite for a good reason! Red Oaks are fast-growing, brightly colored in autumn, and water wise shade trees with resiliency for the summer highs and winter lows of Sacramento temperatures.

Watering

Red Oaks love water, and need it consistently – especially as they establish. We suggest drip irrigation systems, especially for new trees, to take guess work out of watering new Red Oak plantings!

Pruning

Initial shaping and reduction of problem limbs is all you’ll typically need for a Red Oak! These aren’t particularly high maintenance or brittle trees, which is why we love planting them for long term success as easy trees! Regular pruning to remove dead branches, heavy overgrowth, and house or roof clearance is part of healthy maintenance for all trees, including a Red Oak.

Pests

Your Sacramento Red Oak will be susceptible mostly to aphids, but also to gypsy moths, boring insects, and scale. Definitely have your ISA Certified Arborist take a peed at this tree regularly (we suggest an annual visit!) to keep an eye out for early signs of any infestation or pest damage.

If your Red Oak is struggling with aphid, scale, boring insects, or other pests, we can treat to suppress and help your trees! Learn more about our treatment options here!
