Deodar Cedar

Quick Facts

We lovingly refer to these trees as the ‘Dr Seuss’ trees, for their whimsical and magical flair.

Their unique and drooping shape gives a cartoon-like fun and eye-catching addition to gardens and landscapes.

Watering

These trees often do a little better in the higher elevations of the foothills (Auburn, lower Placer and western El Dorado Co), for the slightly lower temperatures, especially when summer heat comes along.

With a fair amount of watering, soil care and space, the Deodar Cedar can thrive in the Sacramento area.

Pruning

Deodar Cedars aren’t notably high-maintenance trees when it comes to pruning. They can, however, get quite big, so growth regulator treatments and skilled, conservative pruning can help keep them appropriately sized to smaller plots.
