Thuja – Eastern Arborvitae

Quick Facts

Thujas are a popular pick with speciality gardens. They can add a pop of artsy shape as topiary, stand-alone tree, or act as a great privacy or spacing screen in a grouping.

Watering

Mature and established Thuja trees and shrubs can do well in drought and low-water conditions, and are pleasantly un-picky about the soil they can grow in!

Pruning

Not notably fragile or disease-prone when it comes to pruning, these trees are eager to please and stay hearty and easy to maintain.

Pests

Can be susceptible to a handful of pests, and especially deer, who enjoy the leaves as a tasty green snack. You may want to avoid these if you’re in the foothills for the sake of this, as trees won’t survive if they’re too heavily eaten by deer or wildlife.
